Q : Did you expect when you read your role that your character would played such an important role on Breaking Bad ?
A : It all seems so long ago at this point, but a few things still stand out about when I was first told of the role of Clovis. First, I remember the character description saying something like… “He lives by a code.” Which, I thought was an awesome way of saying he’ll be more in the story then just a guy who tows away an RV. Second, when I was hired, they said Clovis would most likely be back for one or more episodes. But I had no idea I’d be asked to come back in the next season. That was a first for me, to play a character in more than one season. I hope the future brings more and more of that. Third, when I got my first script, and saw that I had only one scene, and what it was, I was a little disappointed, as it didn’t read all that much more interesting than a simple tow truck driver, except for one line… “Your word is your bond.” But when the director of that particular episode had me not only downplay that line, but also instructed me not look at either of the other actors, I truly thought… “Well, I guess there won’t be too much to this character after all.” However, that direction was quickly changed after the first take, and I was told to go back to doing it how I did it at the audition. And at that moment I knew, at the very least the “bond” element would have to be satisfied.

Q :Did you know that fans of the show have created a facebook page with the title "Bring Back Clovis on Breaking Bad"? That means that fans are enjoyed your role! Can you make a comment about that?
A : I have to say that with all the roles I have already thankfully done in my career thus far, the comments and compliments I’ve received about Breaking Bad have been at the top of the list. Breaking Bad has an awesome and very loyal fan base. (My episode of “Bones” and the movie “Alien Raiders” are up there too.) I actually did know about that page, as the person who started it contacted me, to find out if I would be cool with him doing so. Again, proving that Breaking Bad fans rock. While I’ve actually never met him, last summer he directed a comedy I wrote called “Nurturing Bonds” at the Theatre Workshop of Owensboro. And apparently I’ve been told he’s an actor in another one-act comedy of mine they’re producing this summer called “Slamming.” Part of their “Summer Shorts” program. I was truly flattered anyone would put up a page, but like this interview, I felt it was a wonderful compliment.

Q : Despite of being an actor at the same time you are also a writer, singer, photographer, producer, director. What do you like most ?
A : Unfortunately I have never hit a period in my acting career where I’m constantly working… So in the 20 years that I’ve been doing it I’ve experimented with many other forms of creative expression. I started writing 20 years ago, while doing stage plays in Connecticut, really just to feel what a writer goes through. Thankfully, my first readers were very complimentary and gracious. And funny thing, which I’m just realizing now, is that one of the women who read one of my very first plays all those years ago, is actually the woman directing this year’s one-act in Owensboro Kentucky this summer. How’s that for being a small world? I started going to a vocal coach when a fellow actor warned me about getting proper vocal technique to avoid getting “nodes” on my chords from screaming. While in retrospect it seemed that his information wasn’t really accurate, that voice teacher identified that I had a voice… There’s a ton to that story, but that’s another story. Photography really came out of when I was younger I used to hunt for pheasants. One day out of season I took a camera along with me instead of my 12-gauge shotgun, and discovered it wasn’t the killing or cleaning of animals that I enjoyed, it was the walking with a definitive purpose. The added bonus is that photographs can be appreciated by many, where as pheasants I shot were only eaten by very few. For the record, I have nothing against hunting, it’s just, at this point in time, I’d just rather hike and shoot wildlife with a camera. It’s sort of like a phrase used in fishing, “catch and release.” Directing came out of a class I took as an actor, along with directors. And I realized some times I wanted to have a greater say in the entire story, and not just one element. It took me a long time to identify what I like the most… Especially after there were some acting roles that I had on television that I was tempted to walk away from… But the answer to what I enjoy the most is: It’s the ability to be creative and collaborative that I appreciate, enjoy and love. Whether it’s writing a blog, a screenplay, rewrites on my first novel, singing Karaoke or at an open mic, doing a web series of mine called Closet Singer, editing, shooting or directing a short film, acting in a friend’s project, producing a non-profit event, or being on a great show like Breaking Bad… It’s the creative element of all of those things, which brings the greatest feelings of satisfaction for me. There was never a bad day on set, but I really enjoyed all the scenes I had in my second episode. I wished there could have been more of them for Clovis, but… I’m truly thankful for what it was. And if more comes… All that much better. By the way, speaking of singing, when I saw the episode with the character Gale singing “Major Tom,” I had to laugh… Wondering if Vince was working some thing that would tie Clovis to the RV, and back to Walter and through some weird ass Karaoke circle. :) Now wouldn’t that be beyond brilliant?

Q : How did you end up on Breaking Bad ?
A : I think this is a better question for Vince Gilligan or the awesome Casting Directors Sharon Bialy & Sherry Thomas. For some reason I remember seeing the script for Breaking Bad long before I auditioned for Clovis. And for the life of me I don’t remember if a manager or agent got it to me to read, or even if I went in and read for the role of Walter White or another character… But what I do remember, very clearly, that after reading the first few pages of the very pilot episode… is thinking, “How the hell is this ever going to be put on television?” And man, as an actor and fan, I am glad it not only got put on Television, but it came back for more.

Q : One promotional photo of 501 "Live Free or Die" of Breaking Bad show us your "buddy" that have a yard and destroy cars that you recommend in Jesse back on Season 3. Is there any chance to see you back on Season 5 of Breaking Bad?
A : You know, when the RV first got stored at Clovis’ yard in season two I knew there was a very real possibility that I’d be back on the show. However, when I watched that awesome episode where they crushed the rolling felonious vehicle… I sort of felt like the role of Clovis got crushed along with it. But when I was saying good-bye to the crew after the last episode I shot, many told me how Clovis would be back, as the show is completely unpredictable… Between you and me, the phone hasn’t rang as of yet, and according to my agents, they’ve just wrapped the first eight episodes of the last season… Clovis free. But, again, as some members of the crew said, there’s always a chance. He could tie Walter and Jessie to the RV. He does know how to wield a pump action shotgun. Cars do break down. Like you, I am looking forward to finding out what happens next! That’s it? Well that was easy…
