In this exclusive interview with Breaking Bad Greece, Tina Paker (Francesca on AMC's Breaking Bad) talks about Episode 413 "Face Off", if she will come back on the show and much more! Hit the jump below to read more!
Q : How did you end up on Breaking Bad?
A : My agent sent me out on the audition (which was taped since I live in Dallas) and I was VERY excited because I’m such a huge fan of the show. I read the sides and thought “Well, crap. I bet I’m going to walk into a room full of sexy, blonde, big boobed actresses.” Not that’s anything wrong with that but I then began to think “Well, I’m not that (ha). What’s different about me and how can I play that up?” I think I styled myself kind of rockabilly for the audition – in a dress that really ramped up my (ample) curves and my sassiness. BIG risk but go big or go home- right? I didn’t hear anything for a few weeks…but got the call literally like 4 hours before I was supposed to get on the plane to go to New Mexico. Crazy! But good crazy. So so grateful Vince & company decided to take a gamble on something different.
Q : Saul Goodman made some hilarious comments about your character! How did you felt about that?
A : I think they are funny as hell. Got quite a few “hey HT!’s” on my Facebook page. I know the good feminist in me should probably be offended but I think the comments really ramp up the swarmy pig-ness of Saul’s character. Plus, the way Bob delivers them are pure comic gold.
Q : What was your favorite part of being involved in such a show?
A : Besides all of the obvious reasons – being such a huge fan personally, amazing original writing and working with actors that are on top of their game (which in itself is no easy feat) –there’s a palpable sense of community on the set of that show. Everyone – and I mean everyone – from the executive producers to the stars to the PA’s- is a huge fan of the show. They are genuinely excited about the work and what’s happening in all of the storylines. So supportive and encouraging regardless of what role you are playing. Feels like everyone is invested in the show’s success. Definitely one of the friendliest sets I’ve ever worked on.
Q : Will you come back on season 5?
A : I haven’t shot anything yet but am keeping my fingers crossed since there’s still 8 more to shoot. I’ve been watching this season thinking “Please keep Saul alive…Please keep Saul alive!” Ha! I’m sure Francesca can sign Saul’s name though if necessary---in case Vince is reading this. Either way though, just happy to be a small part of this amazing show.
Q : Why do you think Breaking Bad differs from other series?
A : Good old fashioned original writing and acting wins every time. When I think back on all of my personal favorite shows—this is/was always the case. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to have some killer - now signature Breaking Bad -camera shots/cinematography and a pretty rockin’ sound scape… I could go on for days. Can you tell I love this show? Ha.
Q : Episode 413 was amazing! I loved your scene when Francesca got Walter to go back to his house to get money to pay her off! Can you please tell us something about this scene?
A : First off, when I got the sides, I was soooo excited to have such a cool scene with Bryan –like bucket list shake your booty around the room- excited! (yes- I’m a nerd!) He’s such an actor’s actor—very present and listening and really bringing the heat – no matter who the camera is looking at. Which really brings out the best in his scene partners –takes the scenes to new levels. You almost forget the camera is there. So to have that opportunity-something I'd been happily watching from my Francesca perch in the office- was thrilling to me. I guess a fun fact about that scene would be that on one of the takes, Bryan was crawling out of the hole to exit and he got kind of stuck for a beat—in the blinds or something—and everyone laughed after the take. Bryan (I think) said- “that’s so Walt”. And I think this is the take that ended up being used on the episode.
